Expo 2017

Expo 2017 will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from June 10th to September 10th, 2017. Under the theme of Future Energy, the Exposition will engage the international community on the issues of sustainable development, research and innovations, and energy for all. Expo 2017 is intended as a venue to foster international understanding through shared art and culture. Over 115 countries will host an estimated 2 million visitors from around the world during the three-month event.

USAP Expo 2017

USAP Expo 2017 is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization selected by the U.S. Department of State to design, build, and operate the USA Pavilion at Astana Expo 2017. The goals of the USA Pavilion are:

  • • To showcase America’s leadership in technology and innovation, and the infinite energy of the American people;
  • • To highlight the strong partnership between the United States and Kazakhstan
  • • To promote the United States’ commercial and public diplomacy interests in Kazakhstan and Eurasia.

The USAP Expo 2017 team includes some of America’s top experiential design, operations, communications and diplomacy professionals from private, nonprofit, and academic sectors with extensive experience in Expos, Kazakhstan and the wider Eurasian region.

USA Pavilion Partners

The U.S. Department of State
The U.S. Department of State is responsible for U.S. participation in international fairs and expositions abroad sanctioned by the Bureau International des Exhibitions (BIE). The Department works with its American partners, foreign governments and cultural groups to design programing that reflects the relationship between the United States, Kazakhstan, and the Central Asia region.


BRC Imagination Arts
BRC Imagination Arts is an award-winning design firm with more than 35 years of experience creating, designing, and producing breakthrough, award-winning expo pavilions and museum experiences for clients the world over.


Eurasia Foundation
Eurasia Foundation is a highly-respected Washington, DC-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a 24-year record of managing complex public administration, civil society, and economic development programs in the Eurasian region.


U.S. Kazakhstan Business Association
The U.S.-Kazakhstan Business Association is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes U.S. economic and commercial cooperation with Kazakhstan. Since 1999, USKZBA has engaged industry leaders and policymakers from the United States and Kazakhstan to foster a positive business and investment climate in Kazakhstan.

USA Pavilion Leadership

Ambassador George Krol, Commissioner
Ambassador George Krol was sworn in as United States Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan on January 8th 2015. Previously, Ambassador Krol served as U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan. He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, holding the senior rank of Minister-Counselor and served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.

Dr. Joshua Walker, President and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Joshua Walker specializes in business diplomacy, international affairs, public-private partnerships and also is Vice President of Global Programs at APCO Worldwide. He served as senior advisor to numerous officials in U.S. federal departments and agencies. He served at the U.S. Department of State in Secretary Kerry’s office of the chief economist.

Andrew Snowhite, Executive Director
Andrew Snowhite is an experienced global executive who focuses on strategic management, business development, partnerships and communications. He works across multiple industries including real estate, themed entertainment, sustainability and IT. Mr. Snowhite served as CEO of the USA Pavilion at Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea

Christian Lachel, Creative Lead
Christian Lachel is Executive Creative Director and Vice President at BRC Imagination Arts. He brings imagination, design expertise, business acumen, and strategic thinking to BRC projects, including award-winning World Expo projects and pavilions. He led the creative efforts for several innovative pavilions at Expo 2010 Shanghai, including the China National Pavilion, USA Pavilion and SAIC-GM Pavilion.

Horton Beebe-Center, Board Member
Horton Beebe-Center is President of Eurasia Foundation and chairman of Gazelle Finance. Mr. Beebe-Center was also directly involved in the design and launch of the Foundation’s five locally chartered institutions of Russia, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Ukraine and Moldova.

Margery Kraus, Board Member
Margery Kraus specializes in public affairs, communications and business consulting for major multinationals and is Founder & Executive Chairman, APCO Worldwide. Ms. Kraus founded APCO in 1984 and transformed it from a company with one small Washington office to a multinational consulting firm in major cities throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Jennifer Miller, Astana Expo 2017 Coordinator
Jennifer Miller manages the U.S. Department of State’s team overseeing all aspects of the United States’ participation in Expo 2017. She is also responsible for the Department’s public diplomacy initiatives in the five countries of Central Asia, and has expertise in public-private partnerships, international education, and international project management.
